Last Tuesday Chof Tamuz, Rabbi Peretz Rivkin gave a rousing class. He spoke about the trumpets which were used in the Beis HaMikdosh, and explained how the Kohanim blew them, what the purpose was, the meaning and significance behind the blowing of the trumpets, and more. People listened attentively as he expounded on the subject.
During the times of the Beis HaMikdosh, the Kohanim had a Mitzva to blow the trumpet whenever there was a tzaara by the yidden. Today, some opinions say that this is also done in Chutz La'Aretz.
Rabbi Rivkin didn't only talk about these trumpets; he actually brought one with him. He showed a trumpet to everyone there which was made according to Halachic specifications. The entire thing was made out of 1 piece of pure silver. Who knows? Maybe when Moshiach comes that very trumpet will be used by the Kohanim in the 3rd Bais HaMikdosh. May we be zocheh that we should experience this today!
