A full crowd of men and women gathered this past Motzei Shabbos for the fourth annual Melava Malka of Yagdil Torah held at the Razag Ballroom in Crown Heights.

The guest speaker was Rabbi Issamar Ginzberg of Israel, and the evening's honorees were Mr. Yerachmiel Jacobson and Rabbi Menachem Mendel Wolf who saluted the organization driven to spread Torah learning throughout the Crown Heights community through shiurim, publications and other projects.

Chief among their activities is the Heichal Halimud Tiferes Yitzchok, the study center on Empire Blvd, which BE"H has not been closed for even a single day since its opening in Elul, 5770. They have also recently opened a second stunning Beis Medrash.

Rabbi Levi Browd founded Yagdil Torah along with his wife, Batsheva, to perpetuate the memory of their first born son, Menachem Mendel.

"The event served to inspire participants and to thank the honorees for what they have done for the Crown Heights community," remarked Browd.

"Thank you to all the supporters who enabled us to achieve this success in the past eight years, and thank you to the thousands who participated by learning; whether at a shiur, in the Heichal Halimud or with one of our print or online publications," he said.

A beautiful selection of rare and unique niggunim was presented by Mendy J and Shimmy Brod, as guests enjoyed a delicious meal and entertainment by Ventriloquist Jonathan Geffner. He was a hit with the crowd laughing over and over. "The elegant ambiance was the perfect setting for the evening which ran seamlessly and kept everyone captivated," said one attendee.

Yagdil Torah's 3rd Annual Melave Malka Dinner took place this past Motzei Shabbos in Oholei Torah. What was it like? What are the highlights?

In all honesty, it's nearly impossible to sum up the event in a few words, because it was so many different things all at once. It was:

  • A potent dose of inspiration for our daily lives.

Dayan Raskin and others gave encouragement, tips and motivation for increasing in Limmud Torah in our daily lives. Many people came away with new insights and commitment ideas.

  • A show of identifying with and support for Yagdil Torah.

Whether people came to support Yagdil Torah, or out of respect or admiration for our estimable honorees, the hall was packed. When the evening was over, people felt differently in their outlooks, specifically when pertaining to Yagdil Torah. After witnessing the effects on our community, it was impossible to remain unchanged.

  • A moment of learning about the inner workings of Yagdil Torah.

Many know the overall purpose of Yagdil Torah is to "promote Limmud HaTorah"-but what does this mean? How do we go about it? Those who came to the dinner gained a deeper understanding of what goes on behind the scenes, and how much is accomplished every single day.

  • A way of showing appreciation to the honorees and what they have done for the community.

Each of our honorees has a specific role in this community, and many who attended the dinner did so for them. Those who joined in the evening in their honor, whether through attending or submitting ads, added an extra element in appreciation for what these men do.

  • Accompanied by a very satisfying menu served by Exquisite Catering, Streimel-style comedy by famed Badchan Yankel Miller, and extraordinary music by Yossi Cohen and Yehuda Piamenta. It was definitely not a night to be missed.

Our honorees, Dr. Robert Feldman, Mr. Oren Popper and Rabbi Gershon Sellinger, stressed how happy they were with the work of Yagdil Torah and urged dinner attendees to tap into its many learning outlets.

Those who were unable to attend can still be part of Yagdil Torah's work. Donating to our organization ensures its continuation and expansion. Donate today to be a part of it all and make a difference in Limmud Torah.

Chassidus B'Rabim Beis Iyar 5771

Yagdil Torah will be launching a new initiative that focuses on Chazaras Dach in Shuls on Shabbos afternoon. The Rebbe was known to highly endorse this practice, saying it has equally positive impacts on the speaker who has to learn the chassidus in order to repeat it and the listener who is enveloped in words of chassidus. The Rebbe stressed that this was a custom introduced by his father in law and thus is, without question, important to partake in. To take part in this great program keep an eye out for your shuls' times.
